Set in the lush rainforest of tropical North Queensland and surrounded by trees and ferns, the Daintree house was designed as a retreat and to be occupied by the client for part of the year. The brief called for a traditional Queenslander inspired house with a modern flavour that would nestle into its steamy rainforest environment. The result was a concept for a two storey pavilion style house with separate ‘pods’ forming living, eating and sleeping areas raised above the forest floor to allow cooling breezes to envelop the house. Extensive undercover verandah floors wrapped in and around the pods to allow free movement of occupants and cooling breezes to provide a thermally crafted shelter.
