An existing 1980’s brick veneer and tiled roof dwelling is set high on a rural property surrounded by a pine plantation and bushland and overlooks the Anakie valley with panoramic views to Corio Bay and Geelong in the distance. The original client’s brief was to alter the original house and replace the existing hipped roof with a new flat roof, replace all windows and to reclad the entire house. In collaboration with the client, the design developed significantly to demolish the entire structure down to the slab and based on the original footprint a whole new dwelling would be erected. The form was developed to the client’s brief to represent a large picture frame with new ‘picture’ windows to frame the impressive views. The external clading is to be colorbond ‘Interlocking’ panels to give a modern sleek aspect to the form. The program of rooms echos the original layout to provide three bedrooms, living areas and modernised amenities.
